How do you calculate and improve OEE?
OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality. Calculate each as a percentage, multiply them, then improve OEE by finding which factor is your biggest loss and attacking its root causes. World-class is ~85%; most plants start far lower — which is where the fastest gains are.
The three factors
| Factor | Measures | Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Uptime vs. planned | Run time / planned time |
| Performance | Speed vs. ideal | (Ideal cycle × count) / run time |
| Quality | Good vs. total parts | Good count / total count |
Example: 90% availability × 95% performance × 99% quality = ~85% OEE. Drop any one and OEE falls fast — so measure all three to know where to act.
How AI helps you improve it
AI captures the losses automatically, pinpoints the biggest contributor (downtime, speed or scrap), and surfaces the recurring causes — so you improve the factor that actually moves OEE instead of guessing. Praxie tracks OEE live and guides the improvement; see it on your data in a free micro-pilot.
