The most basic form of a Time Card is a card with the employee’s name and identification number on it. The employee is required to have it stamped by a Time Clock when they arrive for work, when they leave for lunch, and when they leave for the day. Other forms are of a Time Card are a manual version on which an employee hand writes this same information over a number of days during their pay cycle.
More recently, Time Cards have evolved so that the employee can swipe a magnetic strip, scan a barcode, or bring an RFID tag near a reader to record the start and end of their shift. The latest technological advancement in Time Cards includes the use of “smartclocks” which come with touch screens, color displays, wireless networking and cameras to monitor and deter employees from clocking each other in and out.
